Khilkov: ХНЛКОB
No allowance was made in the Ukase creating the Russian Grand Priory for the passage of the title of Hereditary Commander through the female line. However, on the extinction of the male line, the Khilkov title was transferred to Andre Khilkoff-Choubersky, son of the sister of the last Hereditary Commanders. This was done by imperial sanction with the condition that the Khilkov name was assumed by the beneficiary in conformity with Paul I's Ukase of 29th November/10th December 1798, creating the New Foundation of Commanderies for Russian Nobles. In spite of the Emperor's blessing, Baron Michael de Taube, legal adviser to the Paris Group, maintained that the Khilkov Commandery was extinct.1
